The circle glasses men's ones are thinner than square ones. Circular ones do not have corners like square ones, and grinding them will indeed make them appear thinner, but the impact is not significant.   If there is astigmatism, the closer the axial position is to 180, the thinner it becomes. For people with high astigmatism, the axial position of 180 has little effect on thickness....
