Every day begins and concludes with the same question. Our clients and potential clients often ask us "How do I increase the size of my business while capturing my fair market share?" Our answer is straightforward "Build yourself a foundation of potential customers and then work the pipeline continuously and effectively."
One big tip I'm willing to share with you as you read my short synopsis todayis to learn how to become a successful PodCaster to watch your bottom line fly skyward!
Over the past 10 years, the Internet has created many new innovative marketing channels. From successful ezine publishing and distribution right through to more powerful methods of optimizing your search engine.
As a television and radio broadcaster/marketing consultant, I have had the sincere pleasure of understanding just how important both the radio and television marketing methods are to businesses and individuals in getting the word out to their prospective audience.
Our radio show on the internet, Net Talk Radio has been received well by listeners as well as advertisers. I think I've known that over time, faster high-speed connectivity and hand-held devices would eventually enable an expanded target audience reach.
The day has finally come!
Although, we began using our online radio format some time ago, we're able to sweeten the pie by allowing our listeners to virtually download our program (information or entertainment) straight into their iPod and iRiver devices. The listeners are now able to listen to the show wherever and whenever "they" want. As an added benefit for us and our valuable advertisers, we can track every hit (listener) at all times for about the cost of one cup of coffee! We make all this happen with the help of one of today's leading audio/blogging technologies, often known as "PodCasting".
PodCast Marketing: *Anyone is able to do this!
The first question is: What is podcasting?
Podcasting is a term that came up as a novel way to refer to the technology used to push (share) audio files from web pages to the users (clients) of that content, who generally listen to it via an iPod (hence the word "pod") and any .mp3 player (iRiver) at their discretion as well as their convenience and control.
PodCasting is similar to the concept of time-shifted software and devices like TiVo, which allow you to enjoy what you want at the time you want it, by simply recording and saving video, except that PodCasting is typically used to record audio-based content to date. (Universal streaming of video is likely in the near future.) With that stated I should be clear that this simple to use new technology can be used for pushing (deploy) any kind of files, such as photographs (images) and videos, software updates and/or text.
PodCasting utilizes an XML-based technology called RSS (Real Simple Syndication). The content publishers (PodCasters) present new content in the format of XML RSS file which includes dates, titles, descriptions, and hyperlinks to the .mp3 files. This "automatically" generated file is known as RSS feed. RSS feed. Dave Winer is considered by many to be the inventor of RSS and an innovator in the field of applied XML. The main component that makes PodCasting function with RSS includes "enclosures" (remember that term) An element that is used through RSS 2.0.
If you are a user or consumer one can simply run an "aggregator" (remember to remember this word as well) program such as Adam Curry's iPodder program from MTV installed on your personal computer, which lets you easily subscribe to RSS feeds. The programs like Adam's work according to a set schedule or random design, download the RSS filesand then check to see if fresh media is currently available. If any new content is available and the audio files are automatically downloaded and placed in a folder (of your choice) to your disk or directly routed to your mp3 player.
I used an asterisk as stated above to create this an honest and sometimes painful disclaimer. When I said that "Anyone could do this" I could more accurately state, "Anyone that properly learns (from a real professional) and activates their own PodCast process can take advantage of BIGGER numbers by creating the and nurturing of their own thriving community. As podcasts -based business owner, this is huge and necessary! This solution for marketing will not only make you financially solvent but it could also make you the "STAR"!
Integrating the PodCast Magic into Your Arsenal
Here now is a list of what you need to do to prepare yourself in advance for the first PodCast presentation.
1. Do some research on the PodCast component.
Learn precisely what PodCasting is and how it functions. I recommend visiting http://www.google.com and typing, "PodCast Radio" into the search field.
2. Physically Search Only For The Professionals You Believe In. Professionals
You should make a list of PodCasters who have proven to be experts in what they are doing. Align your yourself with only the best. From this list of names, call them via phone and ask them to pick your brain(s). If you are unable to locate an actual point of contact, I strongly urge you to eliminate off the list. You should do business with those that believe in "touching" their customers with greater intimacy and personalization rather than just an email. Remember, you're searching for a friend. A mentor. Not necessarily someone who is willing to get your money, and then make it off. A strong partnership (friendship) is the aim here.
3. Discover Your Passion
What is your passion that you share with others? What value can your followers learn from you? What is your ideal audience? Learn Your "WHY"!
4. Develop Your Plan & Work Your Process
What are you required to learn? What do you have to do? What time frame will you be ready? Who will offer you the necessary support to complete your plan. What is the equipment required?
5. Get Your Podcast Going!
As you begin the doors of your "new-to-you" adventure, don't expect total perfection in the beginning. Be kind to yourself and know that you will evolve. All of us started at the beginning. You've probably seen my first radio air check from my first radio gig from Bakersfield, California. I sounded exactly like an uncoordinated knucklehead. :-) With enough practice and dedication will make you near perfect, but take your time and allow yourself the time to grow.
Connect to Pro-PodCasters. Listen to nearby radio station. Read articles and books like this one on a regular basis. (I do this every day!)
6. Finally... There are no excuses!
If you "really" would like to turn up the intensity of your marketing efforts, than PodCasting will give you the significant marketing advantage.
Know this...
Some will discuss it, but will never make their move.
On the other hand, can accept any excuses you can make and begin creating your first PodCast now! (At the very minimum ensure that you move PodCasting toward the top of "TO-DO" checklist!
Today, in closing...
I've only illustrated the essentials is required to know before you go piling into your PodCast project full-on. Make sure to recognize and experiment with all angles of marketing when it comes to putting together an ongoing profitable PodCast production for the entire world to listen to and take notice!
Happy PodCast Marketing!
