Every day begins and concludes with the same question. Prospects and clients ask us "How do I increase the size of my business and gain my fair share of the market?" Our answer is straightforward "Build yourself a foundation of prospects and build that pipeline continuously and effectively."
One BIG tip that I'm willing to share with you as you read my short synopsis todayis to learn how to become a successful PodCaster while watching your bottom-line fly skyward!
Over the past decade in the last decade, the Internet has brought about a variety of revolutionary marketing tools. From the successful ezine publishing and distribution, all the way to more powerful search engine optimization practices.
As a television and radio broadcaster/marketing consultant, I have had the sincere pleasure of understanding just how important both the radio and television marketing methods are to businesses and individuals in getting the word out to their prospective audience.
Our online radio show, Net Talk Radio, which airs every week, Net Talk Radio has been well-received by listeners as well as advertisers. I'm sure I've been aware that over time, faster high-speed connectivity and hand-held devices will eventually allow for an expanded target audience reach.
The day has finally arrived!
Although, podcasts began using our online talk radio format a few years ago, we're now capable of enhancing the quality by allowing our listeners virtually download our program (information and even entertainment) directly to their iPod and iRiver devices. Our listeners can now listen whenever and wherever "they" like. In addition, as an added benefit for us and our valuable advertisers, we track every single hit (listener) throughout the day at the expense of coffee! We achieve this by deploying one of today's top audio/blogging technologies that is known as "PodCasting".
Anyone can do this!
The first question is: What is podcasting?
Podcasting is a term that was invented as a new way to define the technology employed to transfer (share) audio files from websites to the users (clients) of the content. They typically listen to it on the iPod (hence the term "pod") or some other .mp3 player (iRiver) at their discretion comfort and convenience.
PodCasting is in a way similar to the concept of time-shifted videos software and devices like TiVo, which allow you to watch exactly what you want whenever you want to by simply recording and storing video except that PodCasting is mostly used for audio that is up-to-date. (Universal streaming of video is most likely to be just around the corner.) In conclusion, I'll clarify, however, that this new and easy-to-use technology is able in order to distribute (deploy) any type of file such as photos (images) and software updates, videos and/or text.
PodCasting utilizes an XML-based technology called RSS (Real Simple Syndication). The content publishers (PodCasters) describe new content in the form of an XML RSS file which includes dates and descriptions, titles, and hyperlinks to the .mp3 files. This "automatically" generated file is known as the RSS feed. Dave Winer is considered by many to be the inventor of RSS and an innovator in the field of applied XML. The key element that makes PodCasting be compatible with RSS is "enclosures" (remember the term) An element that is which is supported with RSS 2.0.
For the end-user or as a consumer, you simply run the "aggregator" (remember the word also) program such as MTV's Adam Curry's iPodder software installed on your personal computer, that allows you to easily subscribe to RSS feeds. Applications like Adam's operate according to a set schedule or random design, download the RSS content, then look to see if new material is accessible. If any new content is available and the audio files are instantly downloaded and saved to a folder (of your choice) in your computer's hard disk or directly transferred to your mp3 player.
I utilized an asterisk like noted above to make this an honest and sometimes painful disclaimer. When I said that "Anyone Can Do This" I could more accurately state, "Anyone that properly learns (from a real professional) and activates their own PodCast process will take advantage of larger numbers by developing an and maintaining their personal emerging community. For a business owner who is online, this is huge and essential! This solution for marketing will not only ensure your financial stability however, it can transform you into a "STAR"!
Fitting The PodCast Magic into Your Arsenal
Here is a list of tasks to complete to prepare yourself to present your very first PodCast presentation.
1. Study The PodCast Element
Find out exactly the details of what PodCasting is all about and how it functions. I recommend visiting http://www.google.com and typing, "PodCast Radio" into the search field.
2. Physically Search For Only The Professionals You Believe In. Professionals
Create a list of those PodCasters who can be trusted to know what they're doing. You should only be aligned with the best. From this list of names, call them via phone and listen to the brain(s). If you cannot locate an actual point of contact, I would strongly advise you to remove off the list. It is best to do business with those that believe in "touching" their market with more intimacy and one-to-one personalization rather than just an email. Keep in mind that you're seeking a partner. A mentor. Not necessarily someone to steal your money and make you feel off. A strong relationship (friendship) is the aim here.
3. Discover Your Passion
What passion do you share with other people? What value can your followers learn from you? Who is your audience? Know your "WHY"!
4. Develop Your Plan & Work Your Process
What do you have to be able to learn? What do you have to do? What is the date you will be ready? Who will give you the necessary support in order to achieve your goal. What equipment is required?
5. Start Your Podcast!
As you roll out the doors of your "new-to-you" adventure Don't expect perfection on day one. Be patient with yourself and realize that you'll grow. All of us started at square one. I'm sure you've seen my first radio air check during my initial radio gig in Bakersfield, California. I sounded like someone who was a bumbling knucklehead. :-) With enough practice and desire can make you near perfect, but do be fair with you and give yourself enough time to progress.
You can listen to the other pro-PodCasters. Listen to nearby radio station. Read books and articles such as this on a regular basis. (I do it all the time!)
6. Finally... There are no excuses!
If you "really" need to crank up the heat on your marketing efforts, PodCasting gives you the major advantage in marketing.
Be aware of this...
Others will talk about it, but they will never actually make their decision.
On the other hand, should make no feeble excuses and get working on your very first PodCast now! (At the very minimum ensure that you move PodCasting to the top of your "TO-DO" lists!
Today is the day to end...
I've shown only the essentials you must know before you begin your PodCast endeavor full steam ahead. Make sure to recognize and test all the angles of marketing when it comes to creating an ongoing, money-generating PodCast production for the entire people to hear and to listen!
We wish you a Happy and a Proud PodCast!
