NBA 2K22 has managed to distinguish itself even from its source material
In less than a month, gamers purchased more than 5 million copies of NBA2K21, an incredible number even for a franchise that has seen steady growth for the past several years. It's expected to be one of the most anticipated releases for next-generation consoles when it launches next week. NBA 2K22 will be released soon, and you can get a lot of 2K MT and VC bonuses if you pre-order.
Considering that the game previously ranked second to Electronic Arts' NBA Live, this is a significant advancement. According to Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, the game has managed to distinguish itself even from its source material. He also stated that the game's success is no longer dependent on how well the league is performing.“NBA2K is now a stand-alone entertainment experience,” he says. But we went into the pandemic when there was obviously no basketball being played, and we managed just fine. We did a lot better than fine.”
When the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game are released, the popularity of the game will be put to the test. In contrast to many other titles, 2K Sports decided to create separate versions of the game. There is a risk associated with this, especially given the small install base of customers that are associated with a new system launch. The developers, on the other hand, wanted to highlight exclusive features in those games.
“The team wanted to start from scratch and create a new title,” says Zelnick.“We think it's absolutely extraordinary. There's a new experience called the City, which is The Park taken to a whole new level. We hope to provide the premier simulation experience as well as the premier cultural basketball engagement lifestyle experience. That's what NBA2K has become known for.”NBA 2K22 MT is available in the game, regardless of whether you prefer next-generation or current-generation hardware.
While Take-Two is willing to do so with NBA2K, the company is not moving as quickly with its other crown jewels. Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 will be playable on both next-generation systems thanks to backward compatibility, but the updated version of GTA V, as well as the standalone version of GTA Online, will not be released until the second half of next year.
And this is directly related to the low number of next-generation systems that will be installed in people's homes.“I think there is always a balance between taking the time we need to make sure the title is incredible and also being mindful of how large the installed base is,” says Zelnick."The installed base will be significantly smaller next week than it will be toward the end of the calendar year 2021."
Take-Two and many other publishers won't see a significant increase in revenue from next-generation systems anytime soon, at least not until their release schedules are more closely aligned with those of the 2K22 MT PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, Zelnick is optimistic about what they will be able to bring to the gaming world.
He does, however, express concern about the size of the hard drives on both systems, which is common among gamers. Furthermore, Take-Two has not shown much enthusiasm for cloud gaming thus far, which could be a source of frustration for both the company and fans of its games. Zelnick, on the other hand, believes it will not be a game-ending injury.“I think we'll figure it out over time,” he says. The issue of storage is not a current concern, but it has been one in the past, according to the expert.
