Recover Lost Administrator Password on MacBook Using Recovery Mode

1. Restart your computer. If you can't change your password using your Apple ID, you can use recovery mode to reset it. You will need to enter recovery mode when your computer is running.
2. Stop Command + R when you hear the sound. Keep holding the keys until the download bar appears. This will put your Mac in recovery mode. It may take some time to download.
3. Click the "Utilities" menu, select "Terminal". You'll see a list of utilities in the bar at the top of the screen.
4. Enter .resetpassword Click Return. This will open the Recover Password utility.
5. Select your hard drive. If you have multiple drives on your Mac, you'll need to select the drive to which your operating system is attached. This will usually be labeled "Macintosh HD."
6. Select the user account for which you want to change the password. Use the drop-down list to select your user account.
7. Create a new administrator password. To create it, re-enter your new administrator password.
8. Enter an optional password hint. This prompt may be displayed if you have difficulty accessing it.
9. Click "Save" to save your new password. It will be used when you restart your computer.
10. Click the Apple menu "OS X Utilities" → Select "Quit OS X Utilities." Choose to restart your Mac when prompted. This will reboot your computer. Apply your new password.
11. Log in with your new password. After rebooting, select your user account Log in with your new password.
