Tips for playing archery
We must therefore constantly seek to improve the quality of our training and training. This collection does not pretend to answer all the questions, the training of voluntary and professional teachers depends above all on their involvement in the training offered by the FFTA.
It is always difficult to want to say everything with few messages. It is also complex to prioritize the relevance of our remarks. However, we have selected a few instructions from our experience to help all those who pass on their passion for archery through practice and advice.
This advice focuses more on the organization of training sessions than on its content and is limited to the technical and biomechanical aspects of our activity.
If we could summarize archery only in its technical aspect, we could define 3 objectives to achieve to improve the performance of an archer. He should
. Achieve stable body placements and identical movements during shooting
. Establish firing continuity
. Execute a smooth and regular release
Several tips are offered in this document for setting up your training sessions and thus better achieving these goals with your athletes.

Shoot continuously regardless of the degree of instability of the sight. Warning! however with this instruction which must not systematically associate the speed of execution. Because to shoot continuously is to shoot all the time and not necessarily to shoot very quickly. It is important to be attentive to it in order to then allow good coordination with the placement of the sight in target.
Release the rope by releasing the fingers, the rope is released on a relaxation (flexors of the fingers) not on a voluntary and excessive opening (extensors of the fingers).
Be stable throughout the action of pulling on its vertical and horizontal axis. Position your shoulders correctly when cocking and when shooting - should below and on the same horizontal line.
Shoot with his back, from the start of cocking and until the end of his movement by releasing the tensions in both hands and wrists. Pull the string with three fingers without changing its placement from the start of tension until the string is released.
2 Suggest training situations
There are three main shooting situations in practice:
Straw shooting
Straw shooting is the most common situation in training. The shooting takes place at a short distance. This situation makes it possible to increase the volume of arrows, by reducing the recovery time of these arrows. You should always start the workouts on the straw.
The removal of the target indeed favors the concentration on the work of the back, the placement of the line of the shoulders, and the quality of the continuity.

This type of training makes it possible to work with a view to improving shooting technique and automating actions defined as effective beforehand.
Visual shooting
Visual shooting allows the continuous action of the archer to be coordinated by reducing the instabilities of his sight.
Attention: this is to maintain as a priority the continuity in the shooting by seeking to reduce the instabilities of the sight which by nature is never completely stationary.

By seeking the stability of their sight, archers take the risk of stopping their motor action and consequently of alternating in the rest of the movement, the resumptions of the action with research of stillness of the sight.
When the archer draws his bow to the face, the arrow should shoot within 3 seconds. To do this, you have to center your sight while cocking, fire continuously until the end of your movement (after the arrow has left), and accept visual instability in the action. The size of the visual is relative to the level of instability of the viewfinder.
Shooting on a coat of arms
The blazon shooting makes it possible to continue the work previously described under the conditions of the competition.
Maintaining the focus on investments and continuity needs to be strengthened in this situation.
Your requirement must be important during this type of training. All the archers who would reduce the quality of their action (the continuity, the placements, and the release) to the detriment of too much attention on the aim (search for the stability of the sight) and of waiting for the result of the arrow on target, will have to return to a visual. Training on a coat of arms at a distance closer than the official distance corresponding to the coat of arms is an intermediate situation that can be offered to archers. The essential objective of this training situation is to get the archers to shoot continuously with a quality gesture while reducing visual instability. Always favor action over aim.
3 Use the right tools
Several training aids exist and should be used to improve the performance of your archers. Two of these tools are essential for offering qualitative training.
The mirror
The use of a mirror allows the archer to observe the constituent elements of his posture, but also of his actions. In this situation, the archer must shoot the straw at 5 meters with the mirror placed in front of him towards the axis of the target.
He must focus on the placement of a part of the body or on the action that he must reinforce.
