What was your experience of publishing your book?
My first book took me almost a year to complete the writing process. I remember writing the ending chapter, clicking the “save” button, and laying back in my chair. I could even believe that my story could come to an end. The odd thing about my writing is that I have never planned my stories. I sit relaxed and let the story flow in its way. Those stories write themselves. It is very entertaining on the one hand. All of these stories are very different from one another in tones and styles, and most of the time, it is tough to believe that the same person has written all of those stories.
So when my time came to launch my book. I had a good amount of working knowledge for what had to be done, certainly a bit more than the first-time authors. But being an editor enlightened my publishing experience and is my publishing experience educating my role as an editor. I wanted to spend much more time telling you what I have learned and how I would continue learning.
A post by a famous author and an editor with more than nine years of experience in the publishing industry: He has also specialized in memoirs, fiction children’s books, young adult’s books, and adult novels of all kinds of mysteries to thrillers and everything in between. He is now working with a few clients as a development editor with the book ghostwriting services team.
Here are a few tips for you to have a better publishing experience for your first time.
The first tip that I would like to give you is to stick with what you have started to write. No matter what happens, you shall not let it go; even if you procrastinate, you have to set some time to get back to it because you never know what it could result in, suppose you have completed a book, and you don’t think that if you publish it, it can be a success. But later, someone else does the publishing for you, just because you didn’t get it as a success, and after the publishing process, it turns out an absolute success. Then you get shocked by what you thought of it and what it came out of.
An author isn’t something that starts on the exact day when your book gets. It takes time for something to start, maybe months, years, or even more.
When your book gets published, there may be some things you might have in place. You have to obtain a fully functional website, and it should be attractive enough to give your audience someplace to go to.
You should also have an author page on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter because when the book gets published, you would want your followers and fans to be already ready to spread the word. This might not be easy even I started using Twitter about eight years ago, with the specific purpose of building up a fan following my book publish beforehand, and I don’t think that this works. But starting a little early isn’t only about getting all of your presentations in order. You would also require reviews in advance of your book or maybe at the same time.
The same thing applies if you are to do a book signing before the release. Most bookstores prefer to book their events beforehand. As soon as you provide them with the information they need, the better off you would be.
